Vent-free fireplaces use a controlled combustion process. When you turn on the fireplace, gas flows to the burner, where it ignites. The flame burns the gas, creating heat without needing to vent the exhaust outside. The combustion is designed to burn very cleanly, with minimal emissions.

2. Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS)

One of the key safety features of vent-free fireplaces is the Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS). This sensor continuously monitors the air quality in the room. If the oxygen level drops to a potentially unsafe level, the sensor automatically shuts off the gas supply to the fireplace. This helps prevent the risk of carbon monoxide buildup and ensures the fireplace operates safely.

Since vent-free fireplaces don’t require a chimney or vent pipe, installation is much simpler and more flexible.
